Watch Tipcee’s Sukuma music video, featuring Dladla Mshunqisi

Gqom musician, Tipcee, released the music video for her latest single, Sukuma, featuring Dladla Mshunqisi on Wednesday, 14 August 2019.

The music video for Sukuma, which was shot by Pilot Films, uses the song’s rigid and drum majorettes beat as the basis of its narrative. The entire music video is based at a paintball location, with Tipcee and Afrotainment stable mate, Dladla Mshunqisi, as the team leaders of the competing teams.

The music video is presented in three parts. The first is the actual competition between the two teams competing for the prize. The second is the artists’ performance shots, which feature Tipcee performing alone on a bridge, then an abandoned house where Dladla Mshunqisi later joins her, and the last shot is of Tipcee performing with her dance crew. The last part is the dance-off between both artists’ dance crews, which anchors the second half of the video.

The division between the dancers is signified by the colour of overalls they are wearing. Tipcee’s team is seen wearing blue Afrotainment-branded overalls, while Dladla Mshunqisi’s team wears fawn coloured overalls.

Before the video was released on YouTube, it made its premiere exclusively on MTV Base, on Thursday, 1 August 2019. Following the exclusive release, it then made its premiere on YouTube on Wednesday, 14 August 2019. With little promotion behind it, the music video has already garnered just over 11 000 views.
