What happened to bestdressed?

Bestdressed, formally known as Ashley Rous, last uploaded a video onto YouTube in 2020, leaving the community without an explanation, which has opened room for speculations shared below.

One of the dying popular content categories on YouTube has to be the beauty and fashion niche of content creators. This is as it has been questioned on how many “how-to-contour” or apply foundation videos can be created or viewed before it begins to be repetitive.

However, though it seems to be fading out, for viewers who still enjoy this type of content, one of the favoured channels on the platform was that of Ashley aka bestdressed.

The beauty and lifestyle guru has not uploaded a video to her YouTube since December 2020, leaving the community without an explanation. This has opened room for speculation, as to the reasons, which we share below.

What is bestdressed?

bestdressed is a YouTube channel that was created by beauty guru and content creator Ashley Rous in September 2015.

The channel’s description reads as, “fashion, thrifting, and other misadventures of a 20-something living in NYC, clinging to her glory days when she won the best dressed senior superlative. All served with a spicy side of dry humor.”

In the five years that Ashley was actually posting, the channel grew to have over 3.8 million subscribers and over 303 million views on her videos.

Without explanation, Ashley stopped posting on the channel, but the content creator continues to remain active via her other social media platforms.

What happened to bestdressed?

bestdressed’s last video was posted in December 2020. At the time, Ashley had already been posting sporadically.

Therefore, when she stopped posting completely in 2021, fans of the channel and content creator began to ask as to the reasons why.

Unfortunately for those who are itching to know, Ashley has not shared the reasons as to why she decided to stop posting, while she continues to be active on other platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

The silence on the matter left room for speculation. The biggest of which is derived from her last uploaded video.

In the video, Ashley speaks about having to move following a stalker approaching her by gaining access through her window.

It was initially believed that she had stopped posting as she was looking for a new and safer apartment. However, considering that the last video is a tour of her new $1,800 studio apartment in Manhattan, this might not be the case.

Below, we share other conspiracies on why Ashley has stopped uploading YouTube videos.

1. Heartbreak

At the time that Ashley Rous stopped posting on YouTube, it was believed that she was going through a heartbreak.

This is as fans of the beauty guru who followed her on TikTok at the time, realised how she and the person she was speculated to be in a relationship with had stopped sharing each other’s location.

Moreover, during this time, she went on to post this video, which only affirmed the speculation shared by her fans.

At the time, it was believed that she was still healing from the breakup, but with over two years since she last posted, we can assume that it was not the breakup that resulted in her not posting.

2. Diversification

One of the other speculations is that the beauty guru was believed to be working on diversifying her brand by introducing her own merchandise, products or business ventures. Her followers interpreted her time away as her “secretly” working on something.

However, seeing that she has not announced the release of a new product, or even a teaser of an upcoming new business venture, it’s safe to assume that this speculation is false.

What is Ashley Rous doing now?

Though Ashley stopped uploading YouTube videos, where she had a captive audience of over 3.8 million subscribers, she is still producing beauty, fashion and lifestyle content for her other social media platforms.

On TikTok, she has been less active with her 1.2 million followers, with her last post being in November 2021.

However, she remains active with her 1.6 million Instagram followers to date, however, she rarely replies in the comment section, because her followers are always pleading with her to return to YouTube.

Final thoughts

Through the years, YouTube has seen a change in what governs popular and trending videos. From the early 2000s popularity of YouTube couples channels and prank videos, to the popularity and rise of beauty content creators, to now the popularity of the vlogs and lifestyle content creators.

There is always something for everyone, but there has also been abrupt ends to popular YouTubers who used to post regularly.

One such YouTuber is Ashley Rous, known as Ashley Aka bestdressed, who stopped uploading on the platform in 2020 with no explanation as to why.
