Sjava and Lady Zamar have been in an ongoing legal battle for the past three years, following sexual assault allegations levelled against Sjava by the songstress.
Sjava and Lady Zamar’s romantic relationship remained out of the public until its tumultuous ending. This was after Lady Zamar accused her ex-boyfriend and fellow musician of sexual assault in 2017. According to reports, the award-winning singer opened a case against Sjava, claiming that he had sexually violated her in his hotel room at the Porche-Villa Hotel and Conference Centre in Thohoyandou, following their performance at the Royal Heritage Festival in Limpopo in September 2017.
After years of speculation, in August 2020, Lady Zamar consulted with a legal team and decided that she would like to set the record straight regarding all that had transpired. She claimed that he had indeed raped her, and that she was sticking to the allegations made against him. Thereafter, Sjava released a video denying all of the accusations, further claiming that he has never disrespected a woman in such a way.
In November 2020, the charges laid against Sjava were withdrawn, as the court believed that there was not enough evidence to support the claims. In a statement to local media, NPA spokesperson, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, was quoted as saying, “The state declined to prosecute the case because it believed the facts or evidence do not support a successful prosecution.”
