Netflix’s popular romantic teen comedy, The Kissing Booth 2, was partially filmed in Cape Town, South Africa, with the production using the University of Cape Town as its campus setting.
The sequel to Netflix’s popular teen comedy, The Kissing Booth, premiered in July 2020, and followed Elle as she navigated high school with her boyfriend, Noah, being at Harvard University. Many of the high school scenes feature large cathedrals and quads, and were reportedly shot at the University of Cape Town in the Western Cape province.
The plot line is set in Southern California, which has similar coastal shores as Cape Town. The windy roads around the mountain also double up as a Californian mountain setting, and are a significant part of the movie. The roads represent Elle’s freedom as a young adult. Elle’s small home is based in Hout Bay, whilst Sebastian and Noah’s luxurious beach house is said to be the same home used for ITV’s Love Island.
