The newly crowned Miss South Africa 2020 is Shudufhadzo Musida, who takes over the reins from Sasha-Lee Olivier and reigning Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi.
On Saturday, 24 October 2020, the Miss South Africa organisation crowned the new titleholder, Shudufhadzo Musida. The current Miss South Africa takes over the reins from Miss South Africa 2019, Sasha-Lee Olivier. Sasha-Lee was initially the runner-up, but assumed the title when Zozibini Tunzi, who was Miss South Africa 2019, won the Miss Universe title and had to relocate.
According to the Miss South Africa organisation, “The 24-year-old – who comes from Ha-Masia in Limpopo – has a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Pretoria. She is currently doing her BA Honours in International Relations at the University of the Witwatersrand.”
Shudufhadzo has been hailed for challenging beauty standards, much like her predecessors. The fact that she is a bald-headed beauty queen continues to expand the definition of beauty, as Zozibini did with her win. Additionally, Shudufhadzo is regarded by some as a relatively curvy beauty queen, which continues the narrative of body positivity that was encouraged through Sasha-Lee’s changing body.
