Why did Dexter end?

Award-winning drama, Dexter, ended after its eighth season in 2013, after the forensics specialist by day and serial killer by night tried to evade capture.

The critically acclaimed drama series catapulted lead actor, Michael C Hall into stardom after he took on the prolific character. The series generated rave reviews for its unique storyline and constant plot twists.

Despite having an excellent eight-season run, producers eventually believed that the show had seen all possible outcomes, and wanted to end on a high.

Since the season finale, fans of the show have inundated producers with requests to bring back Dexter for a ninth season.

Rumours were at their peak in 2018, when multiple sources claimed that the ninth season will be produced by Netflix.

A representative for the show later clarified the rumours in an interview with Variety, stating, “When Dexter ended, I wanted to mix it up and felt like the cumulative effect of the things I have done since has served as a sort of Dexorcism. I have just yet to, for my part, imagine or hear someone else’s idea that makes it feel worth doing. But never say never.”
