Ty Borden, played by Graham Wardle, exited the Heartland storyline in 2021, as the actor felt that it was time to pursue other opportunities after appearing on the show for 13 years.
Ty Borden, played by Graham Wardle, was part of the Heartland cast for all 14 seasons of the series and bid farewell in January 2021.
In a surprising start to the fourteenth season, Ty succumbed to a blood clot that had formed, after he seemingly survived being shot at the end of season 13 in 2020.
Whilst fans were shocked to see one of the lead characters die, Graham assured them that it was his decision to leave the show after 13 years.
The actor shared a video on Heartland’s official YouTube channel on Monday, 11 January 2021, where he informed fans that he would be moving on to pursue other opportunities.
He also expressed that he believes that he has taken as much as he can from his character and from the show.
He stated, “I have been feeling this call to move on and I have been trying to bargain with it. I have not taken this decision lightly. I have spent a few years now contemplating and trying to figure out how to honour myself and make this transition and honour the show. It’s been a long process and the long and short of it is, I’m following my heart. I don’t know where it’s leading me, but that’s what life’s about – trusting, having faith and going forward.”
