HBO Max has not officially picked up Reign after it was dropped by Netflix, thus, fans have to use the CW application or buy and rent the show.
When Reign left Netflix in 2022, many people assumed that the show would just move to CW’s new streaming home – HBO Max.
However, HBO Max has not yet picked up the show officially and fans still need to watch Reign online through other avenues.
Will HBO Max pick up Reign?
Long-time Reign fans were devastated when Netflix announced that this series would be leaving the platform following the end of the agreement between Netflix and CW in 2022.
Netflix initially closed a deal to become the streaming hub for CW original content back in 2011, which allowed shows like Reign to remain on the platform for up to five years after they were initially added.
However, in 2019, Netflix chose not to renew this deal and HBO Max became the new streaming home for all of the new CW series and shows which had already been removed from other streaming platforms.
As a result, many fans assumed that Reign would just have moved from Netflix to HBO when the output deal expired.
Unfortunately, no official announcement has been made to confirm this move yet, but most fans hold out hope that it is just a matter of time before Reign is picked up by HBO Max, even with the continued disagreements between WarnerMedia and CBS about where CW content should end up.
Other CW shows that have already been added to HBO Max
Reign is not the only CW show that fans expected to see on HBO Max which has not surfaced on the platform yet.
It seems like the split ownership of The CW Network is what is causing the delay in most cases.
Even so, shows like Nancy Drew, Batwoman, Walker, and the original Gossip Girl have already been added to HBO Max platform.

Until Reign is picked up by HBO Max (if it is ever picked up), you can watch all four seasons of this series on the CW mobile application, along with many of the other CW shows that are stuck in the same liminal space between streaming services.
This includes 90210, The Carrie Diaries, The Secret Circle, and more.
