Will Jill Scott return for First Wives Club season four?

Season four of First Wives Club has not been confirmed yet, but it does not look like any other cast members are planning to leave the show.

Though most fans of the original 1996 film, The First Wives Club, were ecstatic when it was announced that Tracy Oliver and BET+ would be rebooting the same concept in a series format in 2019, many fans remained skeptical about whether this revival would live up to its predecessor.

Fortunately, Michelle Buteau’s Dr. Bree, Jill Scott’s Hazel, Ryan Michelle Bathe’s Ari and even now Michelle Mitchenor’s Jayla were able to ward off these doubts. In fact, they have slowly become one of BET+’s favorite groups of characters.

Where season 3 of First Wives Club left off

However, after Ari’s unexpected death between the show’s second and third season, rumors are already spreading about which unexpected twists and turns the series may take in its still-not-official fourth season.

Fans have still not gotten a clear reason as to why Bathe’s character (which was so central to First Wives Club’s narrative) was gradually pushed to the side in season two before finally being killed off (off-screen).

Though it seems as though there might have been some behind-the-scenes drama with the series.

But while Scott certainly has enough on her plate to keep her busy during the show’s off-season, she has not given any indication that she will be leaving anytime soon.

In fact, with the third season ending on such a high note with Scott’s character, Hazel, and Deborah Cox’s character, Regina, finally reconciling and even winning a Grammy for their song, we suspect that there may be even more big things to come for Scott if First Wives Club return for a fourth season, of course.

First Wives Club so far

It took over two decades for The First Wives Club film to get its reboot, but the First Wives Club series has now taken on a life of its own. The series has aired almost 30 episodes throughout the course of the last four years, as is outlined below:

Season Number of episodes Premiere date Conclusion date
Season 1 9 September 19, 2019 September 19, 2019
Season 2 10 July 15, 2021 July 15, 2021
Season 3 10 November 17, 2022 December 15, 2022

Jill Scott did admit that she had mixed feelings about season 3

It seems like First Wives Club fans were not the only ones caught off guard by Ari’s death and Ryan Michelle Bathe’s subsequent exit from the series this time around.

When Scott spoke to BET.com in December of 2022, she shared that season three of the series was “shocking” and that she was “blown away” when she first read the script.

But before that, Scott shared with ESSENSE that the reason she was so shocked by this season’s script was because she had assumed that the show’s characters were “too young to go.”

Either way, it seems like the First Wives Club writers are not afraid of doing the unexpected and it should be interesting to see where they take these beloved characters as the series progresses.

Will First Wives Club be renewed for season 4?

BET+ has not officially confirmed whether First Wives Club will be back for a fourth season yet.

However, given the amount of buzz that surrounded this show’s most recent third season (and its incredibly controversial decision to kill off one of its main characters) there really is no reason why the show would not be renewed for another season.

And since the third season ended in such an exciting place with Hazel and Regina’s Grammy win and Bree and Gary taking to the open road in their brand-new RV, this fourth season really cannot arrive soon enough.

Hopefully the fourth season will find its way to our screens within the next few weeks.

What Jill Scott has been up to outside of First Wives Club

In case you did not know, art has mimicked life in this instance. And even though Hazel is still on cloud nine because of her very first Grammy win, actress, Jill Scott, has actually already won three Grammys of her own in real life.

In fact, Scott’s first Grammy-nominated album, titled “Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1” is still so popular with fans that she has recently been able to celebrate its 23rd anniversary with a new anniversary tour, which has taken her all across the country this year.

When Scott is not performing on stage, she also fills her time recording new episodes of her podcast show, ‘Jill Scott Presents: J.ill The Podcast’ and attending the concerts of her favorite artists.
