Will the duke be returning to season two of Bridgerton?

“I got to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on,” Regé-Jean Page, who plays the dashing Duke of Hastings, was quoted as saying.

Bridgerton fans were heartbroken over the news that Regé-Jean Page will not be coming back for season two of the hit Netflix series.

Lady Whistledown took to Instagram on 2 April to share the devastating news, stating, “While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings.”

She concluded by stating, “We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.”

Season one of the series is based on Julia Quinn’s The Duke and I. The second season will be an adaption of the author’s second novel, The Viscount Who Loved Me, which focuses on Daphne’s older brother, Anthony Bridgerton.

In an exclusive interview with Variety, Page explained that his short time on the series was part of the plan all along, as it is only season one of the series that focuses on his character’s love life and Daphne.

Although fans of the book series might have seen this coming, fans of the show were not as prepared to say goodbye to Page.

According to THR, it is alleged that Page was offered an opportunity to return as a guest star in three to five episodes of season two, at a rate of $50 000 per episode, but reportedly declined for multiple reasons.

Despite the duke not returning, it has been confirmed that Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton, will return for season two. Based on what happens in the book series, her role will be much smaller this time around.

Variety confirmed that even though the duke will not appear in season two, he will still live on in the Bridgerton world as Daphne’s husband. It seems like fans can rest assured that Daphne has already found her happily ever after with the dashing duke.

Bridgerton season two is expected to premiere in 2022.
