Will there be new episodes of Pit Bulls and Parolees?

There will be no new episodes of Pit Bulls and Parolees after the nineteenth season airs, because the show was cancelled.

The Villalobos Rescue Center, and the animals and parolees that they help are at the centre of Pit Bulls and Parolees.

However, the show has been cancelled after 19 seasons and it is unlikely that it will continue or air new episodes after this final season airs.

About Pit Bulls and Parolees

Few things are better than watching a scared, abandoned dog find a new, safe home and Pit Bulls and Parolees does just this.

The show focuses on the work of Tia Torres and the rest of the staff and volunteers at the Villalobos Rescue Center as they rescue dogs from potentially dangerous situations and help them find new, loving homes.

The Villalobos Rescue Center also provides recent parolees with an opportunity to ease their reintegration back into society by giving them a stable job where they get to care for these animals.

Will there be new episodes of Pit Bulls and Parolees?

The Villalobos Rescue Center was established in California in the early nineties. Its founder, Tia Torres, has been working to educate the public about Pit Bulls and caring for the animals at the shelter for well over 30 years.

Villalobos Rescue Center gained a whole new level of fame and notoriety when Pit Bulls and Parolees first started airing on Animal Planet in 2009.

The attention that the rescue centre has gotten since it has been the focus of this show has helped it withstand things like difficulties securing the proper permits, growing expenses, and the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina over the course of the last few years.

Unfortunately, it was announced that the nineteenth season of Pit Bulls and Parolees would be the show’s last.

This nineteenth season premiered with a special episode, titled “You watch, We give”  which aired on Saturday, 22 October 2022 on Animal Planet.

This means that besides re-runs of past seasons and special behind-the-scenes content from the Rabid Reality digital platform, no new episodes of Pit Bulls and Parolees will be aired ever again. Unless the show is picked up by another network in the future.

However, Tia Torres has not announced anything about the show being picked up by another network and has been pretty forthcoming about her frustration with the production for this last season.

Hence, it seems unlikely that the Villalobos Rescue Center will ever be the focus of another television program in the near future.

What was this final season of Pit Bulls and Parolees about?

An estimate on the official Villalobos Rescue Center website, calculates that it takes around $10,000 to run the rescue centre per day and that the annual cost can exceed $4 million.

Therefore, Tia Torres and her team always have an uphill battle financially when it comes to keeping the rescue centre afloat.

However, in this final season, the stakes are raised even further when Hurricane Ida hits Louisiana and the Villalobos team is forced to care for their animals under more dire circumstances.

Where to watch Pit Bulls and Parolees

All 19 seasons of Pit Bulls and Parolees is available to watch on the Discovery Plus and Animal Planet GO subscription-based streaming services.

However, if you want more recent content from Tia Torres and the rest of the Villalobos team, the Animal Planet YouTube Channel recently hosted a “Puppy Bowl” livestream event for the rescue center.

You can also still access special behind-the-scenes content, as well as various web shows and podcasts from the team on their Rabid Reality digital platform.

Why was Pit Bulls and Parolees cancelled?

The cancellation of Pit Bulls and Parolees came as a shock to devoted fans who had been following the show for over 18 seasons.

However, Tia has explained that the show’s cancellation had nothing to do with the rescue centre and that the decision to cancel the show was simply a business decision from Warner Bros. Discovery’s side.

Animal Planet and all of the shows that appear on the channel, including Pit Bulls and Parolees, fall under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella, which formed when WarnerMedia and Discovery, Inc. merged in 2022.

Based on what Tia said, it seems like Pit Bulls and Parolees is just one of many shows that is, in her words, are “going bye, bye” as these two companies continue to consolidate over the next few years, but this is likely only one of many reasons why the show has been cancelled.

Fortunately, Tia also confirmed that the efforts at the Villalobos Rescue Center will continue without the show.
