Yanga Chief offers an introspective album with Pop Star

Yanga Chief has released his latest album, Pop Star, which is a 15-track album where he offers an introspective and referential body of work.

Yanga Chief released his new album, Pop Star, on Friday, 27 November 2020. The album is a 15-track offering wherein the rapper offers an introspective and referential body of work. Having been in the industry for over 15 years, the rapper has used the new album to take fans on his journey in music.

The album contemplates matters of life in various ways, as evident in songs like FIFA, featuring Langa Mavuso, Note To Self, Delela, Suicide Doors, featuring Frank Casino, and Manelo. On the other hand, songs like Ndiyabanika, Mkhwenyana and Khulula tell a love story.

With his latest offering, Yanga Chief has cemented himself as a rapper and a pop star with a sound that is distinctly his own. Following the release of his SAMA-winning EP, Becoming A Pop Star, the album manages to creatively reference pop culture, such as in the use of an extract of Khanyi Mbau’s interview with Debra Patta on Touch The Sky.

The album is available for purchase on Apple Music.
